The Baksı Museum received the "2014 Annual Council of Europe Museum Award" given by the European Parliamentary Assembly on Tuesday, April 8, at the ceremony held in Palais Rohan, Strasbourg. The museum won the prize by outdistancing 37 museums from 22 countries. The bronze sculpture which is the symbol of the award, the work of Joan Miro will be exhibited at the Bayburt Baksı Museum for a year. The Council of Europe Museum Award, which aims to reward the success of museums reflecting the richness of European cultures and to support creative models, given to Hüsamettin Koçan's Baksı Museum which was established in Bayburt in 2010. Strasbourg Mayor Roland Ries, President of the European Parliamentary Assembly Anne Brasseur and Chairman of the European Museum Forum Goranka Horjan gave a speech at the Palais Rohan ceremony and Hüsamettin Kocan received the award on behalf of Baksı Museum. Speaking at the ceremony, Koçan said that thanks to the artists, locals of Bayburt, especially women and children’s faith and enthusiasm, Baksı Museum become what it is today. These words are also the titles of our dreams. Our path was always to walk to people's stories, to the lives that pushed-aside, forgotten people and prejudices. In response to the destroying pressure of the prejudices, we chose to be stand with people. Because our goal is to bring life back to the Bayburt, which is one of the most intensively migrating regions of Turkey, to revitalize the economic life of the region by bringing art back to life... Our other goal is to create a culture-arts center where we can exhibit the traditional arts that the people in the area started to loose and the contemporary arts together. Thus, we believe that we will be able to close the distance between us and the center by carrying peripheral artifacts. The Council of Europe Museum Prize, which we are entitled to receive today, shows us once more that we are right to believe in these...
